An Outing for the Younger Kids

IssueTrak, a software company in Town Center, VB, invited kids from the Mission to come over and work on Christmas cards, have lunch, watch a movie, and get some ping pong in. Deb Gillies, the HR manager at IssueTrak, planned the outing with Pam, a Mission volunteer. Shiroxi and Mrs. Williams brought the kids over. A lively good time was had by all (VERY lively!).

Trip to see Christmas lights

Last night the nursing students accompanied Mission kids to see the Christmas lights at the Botanical Gardens. Here is a report from Pam:

We had an awesome time, we were one bunch of happy folks. The nursing students went above and beyond, the result being a warm, fuzzy memorable event. Lights, music, laughter, playing, friends, family, great food, yummy desserts.....Christmas.

Thank you Ann and students, we felt the love.

Bishop Visits the Mission!

Bishop Holly Hollerith visited the Mission today, and what a wonderful visit it was!  Pastor Keith started things off by asking "Who's ready to worship?"  People in the church responded with enthusiastic cheering to let everyone know that they were READY!

During the service the Bishop baptized infants, youth and adults, as well as received into the church an adult parishioner from Christ & St. Luke's. The Mission Choir looked splendid in their robes and sang wonderfully, accompanied by Ben Blanchard.  There were visitors from Good Shepherd, All Saints', St. Stephen's and Christ & St. Luke's.  The Rev. Gillian Barr was there; she is the Chaplain at the Canterbury Center at ODU, as well as assisting at Good Shepherd.

The rector of Christ & St. Luke's, the Rev. Win Lewis, was there too.  Rev. Lewis announced that he wished to have a "Mission Day" at C&SL, and would be getting together with Pastor Keith to work that out.

Pastor Keith preached a powerful sermon that was inspiring to all. Bishop Hollerith was presented with a certificate of appreciation and a collage by Tanisha Daniels who gave a heart-felt tribute to the Bishop as only Tanisha can.

Bishop Hollerith enjoyed the service so much that he announced he was going to invite everyone in the Diocese to come worship at the Mission.  Praise the Lord!

St. Aidan's provided a delicious ham dinner afterwards.

As the hymn says, "Surely the Lord was in this place". We're sure this was a sentiment shared by everyone who was there.

Promotion for Tiffani

Tiffani is in the Navy ROTC program at Grandby High School.  Today she was promoted to Seaman Apprentice! I asked her what she did to get promoted.  She said she works hard and participates in the Physical Training competition, the Drill competitions, and she stays after school.

Tiffani is a junior now.  Next year she will be a NS4, and she will be teaching ROTC classes.  After high school, she plans to go to college (she has already started looking).  After college she will enter the US Navy as an officer.

Tiffani said her experiences at the Mission has helped her develop her leadership skills and her capacity for hard work.  She makes us all proud!
